We know these two sound very similar, and we’re often asked about the differences between them, so we’re here to clear away any fogginess.
We like to think of Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA and Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% like kinfolk: similar, but both making an impact in their own special way.
Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA is our well-loved and well-known concentrated serum working to reduce the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone. Our Alpha Arbutin is biosynthetic, which is a complicated way to say that sciency-and-complex multi-step processes are involved in deriving the molecule from nature. It’s used at a high 2% concentration and is supported with a next-generation form of Hyaluronic Acid for enhanced skin delivery. Alpha Arbutin is extremely sensitive to degradation in the presence of water if the pH of the formulation is not ideal.
The pH of this formula is approximately 4.9 which is shown to be the most suitable pH to minimize degradation of Alpha Arbutin.
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% falls within our Vitamin C family. This formula offers all of the amazing benefits of Alpha Arbutin, with the addition of pure Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) to visibly target dullness, uneven tone, dark spots, and signs of aging, whilst also providing antioxidant support. A slight tingling sensation can be expected due to the 8% L-Ascorbic Acid present in the formula.
Important sciency bit: Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin are both less stable in formulations that contain water, and use of them combined in formulations containing water is highly discouraged. That is why Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% is a water-free, stable solution.
If you are a new user, you may wish to begin your journey with Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA. If you’re someone who wishes to achieve overall brightening and smoother skin, while targeting the appearance of dark spots, Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% may be the one for you.
Thank you so much for the explanation of these two products. I have a much better understanding.
